Version 2026-10
Alpha Speller is a spelling and vocabulary game run by P C HUANG (Australia) ("we", "us"). This page explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Many players are children, so we keep the collection small: accounts are opened by an adult, and children play as players inside a parent's account with only a nickname.
1. What we collect
- Account details: the player name you choose, a password (stored only in scrambled, one-way form) and the e-mail address of the account holder (an adult, or a parent or legal guardian). For a child player we store only the nickname: no e-mail address, no date of birth and no real name. Older accounts may still hold a month and year of birth given earlier; we no longer use it.
- Game information: scores, points, words attempted and spelled correctly, which words were difficult, and progress in Alpha Drill.
- Security information: the internet (IP) address of the device when someone registers, logs in or asks for an e-mail. We keep it only to stop abuse, normally for about a day.
- One cookie that keeps you logged in during your visit. Your browser also stores your music settings and best Fit Fix score on your own device; these are not sent to us.
2. Why we use it
- To run the game, keep your points and progress, and show the ranking board.
- To confirm that an e-mail address is real, to reset forgotten passwords, and to tell you about your free trial and membership.
- To protect the site against bots, cheating and abuse.
- To send important messages about the account. We will not send marketing e-mail unless you separately agree to it.
3. What other players can see
Other logged-in players can see your player name, your title and your points on the ranking board. They cannot see your e-mail address or any other detail. Please never use a real name as a player name.
4. What we do not do
- We do not show advertisements, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies or analytics tools that follow you around the web.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers below.
5. Who helps us run the site
Our web hosting company stores the site and its database, and our e-mail provider delivers the e-mails we send. They may process information only to provide those services. Information may be stored on servers outside your country.
6. Children
Alpha Speller is made for learners of all ages, and parents and guardians decide whether and how their children use it. Accounts are opened by an adult. A child plays as a player inside that account, under a nickname; we do not ask a child for an e-mail address, a date of birth or a real name, and we ask parents not to enter them. The account holder can delete a child player, with all their scores, at any time, and can delete the whole account under Settings. If an account is not confirmed by e-mail within 14 days, we delete it. A parent or guardian can also write to us at any time to see, correct or delete a child's information.
7. How long we keep information
We keep account and game information while the account exists. When an account is deleted (by you, by a parent or guardian, or because it was never confirmed), the information is removed from the live site. Backups kept by our hosting provider may hold a copy for a limited time.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can change your password, add or confirm your e-mail, and delete your account yourself under Settings after logging in.
- You (or a parent or guardian) can ask to see, correct or delete your information by writing to support@yexuesheng.com. We will answer within a reasonable time.
- If you are not happy with how we handled your information, please contact us first. In Australia you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. If you live elsewhere you may have further rights under local law.
9. Security
Passwords are stored in scrambled form, the site uses an encrypted connection, and accounts are protected by limits on guessing and sign-ups. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a password you do not use anywhere else.
10. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the version above and ask for approval again where the law requires it.
